Inject the solution

A brush or brushroll works the solution through the pile, breaking the soil loose from each fiber.

Extract it back out
A strong vacuum pulls the dirty water and soil into a recovery tank, leaving the carpet clean and nearly dry.
A rental box leaves carpet soaked. A commercial extractor leaves it clean.
The difference is water lift and pump pressure. A weak machine pushes water in and cannot pull it back out, so stains wick back as the carpet slowly dries. Here is the honest side-by-side.

Self-contained Walk-behind extractors

Rider Ride-on extractors
When the carpet is measured in tens of thousands of square feet, a ride-on clears the most ground per hour and saves the operator's legs. Convention centers, large worship spaces, casinos, hospitality.

Deep extraction restores carpet. Low-moisture cleaning maintains it. Most facilities run both: a periodic deep extraction, with fast low-moisture cleaning in between to keep traffic lanes looking sharp without taking the space out of service.
